Since 2009, I have worked as an independent consultant supporting publishers and education organisations to achieve their goals.  I’m a former publishing company CEO with many years experience working in the industry.

An experienced project manager, I manage projects for education institutions, publishers and other organisations.  Recent projects include: project management of teacher support material for a publishing company, establishing literacy and numeracy teaching practices and processes in a tertiary institution and developing an organisation’s youth strategy.

I am a former teacher and have continued to work in the educational field through both publishing and consultancy. I have worked with teachers from early childhood through to tertiary, mostly in the fields of literacy and numeracy, science and maths. I have expertise in change management and in managing professional development.

“Gillian Candler has brought valuable expertise to one of our projects.  Along with her own experience in the educational sector, she has brought high levels of professionalism to her work with participating teachers and librarians, and with key stakeholders.”

Bridget Williams, Administrator, BWB Publishing Trust

“Gillian has provided guidance in several areas for me, as I emerge as an educational publisher.

Preparing for the Frankfurt Book Fair, Gillian not only prioritised what needed to be done, advised on what to expect, explained what I should know but was helpful in suggesting who to make contact with. Since then, ongoing advice on an overseas and local distribution agreement, preparation for presentations and for some day to day queries has always been invaluable.”
Kathy Ferrier, Lanky Hippo Publishing

“Gillian has worked with Whitireia in a consultant role over 3-4 years. We’ve found her an experienced project manager who delivers what she commits to, within the agreed timeframe and budget. Gillian led the planning and successful  implementation at Whitireia of the national Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) initiative, with a practical, ‘can do’ approach, and strong engagement with staff. She also led the development of a new Youth Strategy for Whitireia, and assisted with the implementation of this alongside our Māori and Pacific strategies. Her ability to take a strategic view was crucial to this work.”

Lawrence Arps, Deputy Chief Executive, Whitireia New Zealand
